Tab-and-slot design guidelines (using 6mm plywood as an example):

  • Slot width: Draw a 6.2mm wide rectangular slot. After laser cutting, the actual width will be approximately 6.4mm, accommodating material thickness variations
  • Tab width: Recommended tab tip width should be 0.2mm wider than the slot (e.g., 6.4mm tab tip for a 6.2mm slot), creating an interference fit
  • Tab shape: Trapezoidal design (2° slope on each side) that tightens as it's tapped into place

Cutting parameters depend on material thickness and laser power. For a 40W CO₂ laser cutting 6mm plywood:
